Our Team

Mya Ellis, MS, CTRS

Mya Ellis is an adaptive therapy specialist in the Recreational Therapy Department at UNMC's Munroe-Meyer Institute in Omaha, NE.

Professional Bio

Ellis first connected with MMI as a recreational therapy intern in the spring of 2023 while completing her undergraduate degree. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Recreational Therapy from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, gaining diverse experience in aquatic therapy, community-based programs, behavioral health, in-home care, and camp environments. During her internship, Ellis quickly developed a passion for MMI’s mission, community, and the individuals it serves. She continued with MMI as a part-time Recreation Technician while completing her master’s degree and expanding her professional experience. In May 2025, she joined the Recreational Therapy team full-time as an Adaptive Therapy Specialist.

In her current role, Ellis works closely with Madonna Ability Alliance to provide recreation and leisure opportunities for secondary and transition students as well as adults. She also enjoys collaborating with her colleagues across programs such as Art Club, Wheel Club, Social Skills, the After School Program, and many more. Ellis is passionate about advocating for the individuals she serves and helping them discover opportunities to lead healthy, meaningful, and fun-filled lives! Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, going for walks, and relaxing at the lake!

Ellis provides patient care services at the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute's Department of Recreational Therapy.
