College of Nursing selected for Bedford Falls gift

The Bedford Falls Foundation-DAF has committed $1.5 million to establish scholarships for 100 students each year in the UNMC College of Nursing. The Joanne and William Conway Nursing Scholarship will be awarded to Nebraska residents pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at UNMC

New nursing scholarships available

The UNMC College of Nursing has secured funding to award 30 full cost-of-education scholarships over the next two years at its West Nebraska, Kearney and Northern divisions.

UNMC, Gering schools sign MOU

In March, H. Dele Davies, MD, UNMC interim chancellor, Lepaine Sharp-McHenry, DNP, dean of the UNMC College of Nursing, and Nicole Regan, Gering Public Schools superintendent, signed an agreement that will provide eligible Gering High School students with guaranteed admission into the UNMC College of Nursing - West Nebraska Division. The signing ceremony, held March 24 at Gering High School, formalized the High School Early Admission (HSEA) Program, creating a structured pathway for students enrolled in Gering High School’s Health Professions Career Pathway to transition into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program in Scottsbluff. Gering Public Schools is just the second high school in Nebraska to enter into this type of agreement with the UNMC College of Nursing.

Nursing Awards

Five represent CON at Catalyst

Five UNMC College of Nursing faculty and staff members were nominated for the 2026 Catalyst for Education Award. Juli Bohnenkamp, Brandon Morehourse, Renee Paulin, Ana Lara-Ramirez and Lori Turner were all recognized at the UNMC Spotlight on Scholarship event on March 31. The Catalyst for Education Award, sponsored by the Interprofessional Academy of Educators, recognizes an individual in an educational support role whose contributions help further the educational mission at UNMC. Additionally, Elizabeth Beam, PhD, UNMC College of Nursing associate professor and director of Global Health and the HEROES program, was featured as a Project Awards presenter at the Spotlight on Scholarship event.

CON continues to build pathways

Representatives of the UNMC College of Nursing and McCook schools signed a new memorandum of understanding that will allow the UNMC College of Nursing to provide information and advisement regarding admission to the college’s BSN program to students enrolled at McCook Senior High School.
