Early Career Achievement Award
Sarah E. Hulvershorn, PharmD'11, MS, BCPS
Dr. Sarah Hulvershorn earned her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2011 after receiving her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. She completed a managed care pharmacy practice residency and a two-year fellowship in government programs and outcomes research at Scott & White Health Plan in Temple, Texas. She earned a Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Hulvershorn is a Clinical Director at CVS Caremark, leading a team that provides clinical pharmacy support to health plan clients, with an emphasis on Medicaid and Medicare plans. She also serves as a preceptor for CVS Caremark Managed Care residents and is a multi-year recipient of the “Preceptor of the Year” award.
Dr. Hulvershorn is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS). She has been active in the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) since 2010. She currently serves as an AMCP Diplomat for the University of Nebraska Medical Center and has contributed nationally, including serving as Chair of the Schools of Pharmacy Relations Committee.
Distinguished Alumnus Award
Steven J. Hermansky, PharmD'86, PhD'90, MS'87, DABT
Steven J. Hermansky has spent his career on various roles supporting public health. Most recently, he joined FDA in April 2022 to focus on modernizing toxicology methods and to move toward New Approach Methods that refine, reduce or replace animal testing.
Dr. Hermansky retired from Conagra Brands in April 2022 where he was Vice President and Chief Food Safety and Quality Officer. In that role, he directed & oversaw the corporation’s food safety risk assessment and toxicology programs as well as headed the Food Protection, Regulatory Affairs and Analytical and Applied Sciences departments. Dr. Hermansky led teams of scientists in the Safety Sciences including microbiology, toxicology and analytical chemistry as well as the global regulatory affairs and food safety corporate audit functions. Prior to joining Conagra in 2007, he worked in the pharmaceutical industry in drug safety with a leadership role in toxicology, clinical trials and adverse event tracking, trending and reporting. He started his career as a toxicologist with Union Carbide.
Throughout his career, Steve has demonstrated a passion for science communication, public health policy and scientific integrity. Steve has a Doctor of Pharmacy degree as well as Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in toxicology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology and has published over 40 textbook chapters, peer reviewed publications and scientific abstracts. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska College of Public Health and has served on the Advisory or Editorial Boards of several public health organizations.
