The following awards are presented by the respective UNMC Alumni Councils and are the highest honors the Councils bestow upon graduates and friends of the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the respective colleges. 

College of Allied Health Professions Alumni Council Awards

Submissions are closed for 2022, however, you may bring someone's name forward for consideration at any time by emailing their resume or CV.

Award Categories

  • The Distinguished Alumnus Award is presented to a living graduate of a program within the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions (CAHP) to recognize an individual’s noteworthy contributions to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the respective Allied Health profession and to the health of all people through patient care, research, teaching and/or health services administration. The recipient will demonstrate the highest principles of his/her CAHP profession and serve as a role model for current and future health care professional. 
  • The Early Career Achievement Award is presented to a living graduate of a profession within the College to recognize and promote outstanding achievement in an Allied Health profession by an individual who graduated from the College within the last ten years. The recipient will demonstrate early achievements in one or more of the following areas: patient care, research, teaching, health services administration, and community service.

Graduate Studies Alumni Council Awards

Award Categories

  • The Distinguished Alumnus Award will be presented to a living graduate of the UNMC Graduate Studies Program to recognize an individual's noteworthy contributions to the University of Nebraska Medical Center or in their career field. The recipient will demonstrate the highest principles of her or his profession and serve as a role model for current and future UNMC Graduate Studies Program alumni.
  • The Early Career Achievement Award will be presented to an alumnus who has graduated within the past 20 years from the UNMC Graduate Studies Program. The award recognizes an individual who has made distinguished achievements and contributions early in her or his career.
  • The Honorary Alumnus Award will be presented to a living non-graduate of the UNMC Graduate Studies Program who has had significant impact through their professional or personal contributions to the mission of UNMC, the Alumni Engagement Council, basic and/or clinical research, teaching skills, and/or health services administration. 

College of Medicine Alumni Council Awards

Award Categories

  • The Distinguished Alumnus Award is presented to a living graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine to recognize noteworthy contributions and service to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the Alumni Chapter, the medical profession and to the health of all people through patient care, research, teaching and/or health services administration. The recipient will demonstrate the highest principles of the medical profession and serve as a role model for current and future physicians and health care professionals.
  • The Early Career Achievement Award is presented to an alumnus who has graduated within the last 20 years from the UNMC College of Medicine. The award recognizes an individual who has made distinguished achievements and contributions early in her or his career to the medical profession, the UNMC College of Medicine or the Alumni Council.
  • The Dedication to Student Excellence Award is presented to a living graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine who has had significant impact, going above and beyond, on the education of UNMC medical students.
  • The Honorary Alumnus Award is presented to a living non-graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine who has had a significant impact through professional or personal contributions to the UNMC College of Medicine, the Alumni Council, and the delivery of health care or medical education.

College of Nursing Alumni Council Awards

Award Categories

  • The Distinguished Alumnus Award is presented to honor and promote outstanding achievement in nursing by a living graduate of the UNMC College of Nursing. The recipient will demonstrate marked achievement and contributions in one or more of the following areas: nursing practice, nursing research and publications, community service, professional development, education and nursing leadership.
  • The Nursing Excellence Award is presented to honor and promote outstanding achievement in nursing by an individual who graduated from the UNMC College of Nursing within the last five years. The recipient will demonstrate early achievements in one or more of the following areas: nursing practice, nursing research and publications, community service, professional development, education and nursing leadership.
  • The Honorary Alumnus Award is presented to recognize a non-graduate of the UNMC College of Nursing who has demonstrated loyal and distinguished service and contributions to the College of Nursing or the Alumni Council.
  • The Dorothy Patach Spirit of Service Award is presented to a UNMC College of Nursing Alumnus who has contributed not only to the nursing profession, but to his/her community and improving the lives of others.

College of Pharmacy Alumni Council Awards

Award Category

  • The Distinguished Alumnus Award is presented to a living graduate of the UNMC College of Pharmacy to recognize an individual's noteworthy contributions to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the pharmacy profession and to the health of all people through patient care, research, teaching and/or health services administration. The recipient will demonstrate the highest principles of the pharmacy profession and serve as a role model for current and future pharmacists.

College of Public Health Alumni Council Awards

Award Categories

  • The Distinguished Alumnus Award recognizes the achievements of alumni who have made significant contributions to the field of public health. 
  • The Early Career Achievement Award recognizes the achievements of alumni who have made outstanding contributions to the field of public health within the first five years of completing a degree from the UNMC College of Public Health.
    • Final determination of award recipients in these categories is based on an outstanding contribution to public health, including any of the following categories: leadership in public health, public health practice, teaching and scholarship, research, community/society, and/or the UNMC College of Public Health.
  • The College of Public Health Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Alumni Award was created in 2022 to recognize the achievements of alumni who have demonstrated sustained commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and social justice. Examples of this include, but are not limited to: 

    • A demonstrated commitment of creating a culture of inclusion within a person's areas of influence. 
    • Implemented an initiative, project, or program that cultivates, advances, or models diversity, equity and inclusion. 
    • Served as an outstanding advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion.
    • Engaged in philanthropic efforts contributing to DEI (e.g., leadership/mentorship of youth, support of civic organizations).
