5th Annual Cancer Risk and Prevention Symposium
The 5th Annual Cancer Risk and Prevention Symposium, sponsored by the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, brings together multidisciplinary health care professionals to review advances in hereditary cancer risk assessment, genetic evaluation, and precision prevention. The 2026 program focuses on inherited cancer syndromes across solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, with sessions covering updates on Lynch syndrome, Li-Fraumeni syndrome, hereditary hematologic cancers, dermatologic clues to genetic risk, complex family history cases, and practical guidance on breast imaging, screening selection, and legal considerations related to genetic testing. Expert-led, case-based discussions and patient perspectives highlight strategies to translate genetic risk information into coordinated, equitable, and patient-centered prevention and screening practices.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Identify patients at increased hereditary cancer risk using clinical features, family history patterns, dermatologic findings, and early-onset cancers to guide appropriate genetic evaluation and referral.
- Apply risk-based cancer screening and surveillance principles, including breast imaging options and syndrome-specific considerations, to support personalized prevention and early detection.
- Integrate effective communication, shared decision-making, and interdisciplinary collaboration, along with ethical and legal considerations related to genetic testing and discrimination, to support patient engagement and screening adherence.
