Critical Care Ultrasound Course
Be part of our Critical Care Ultrasound Course with extensive hands-on training designed to elevate your patient care skills with point-of-care ultrasound. This high-yield course is limited to just 36 participants, ensuring personalized instruction and maximum learning impact.
Gain foundational expertise in cardiac, trauma, deep-vein thrombosis and vascular access ultrasound. These lifesaving sonographic exams can make all the difference in managing critically ill patients.
With half of the course dedicated to hands-on scanning, you'll work directly with standardized patients and educators, refining your technical skills and building confidence in implementation of point-of-care ultrasound. Our small group format ensures individualized coaching with real-time feedback, allowing you to hone your technique.
We have designed this course to maximize your learning - combining dynamic lectures with intensive hands-on labs to ensure you leave feeling confident and ready to apply your new skills.
Rural Emergency Medicine Course
This exciting course discusses low-frequency, high-risk emergency scenarios and provides opportunities to practice lifesaving procedures on cadavers, organic tissue, and mannequins. Our highly relevant and informative core sessions are updated yearly by board-certified emergency medicine physicians as well as physicians in their respective fields. This year's event will include small group sessions, high-fidelity simulations, cadaver lab, and procedure skill stations. We always plan to incorporate lightly embalmed cadavers into some of the procedure stations; however, due to a limited supply this year, we may need to use alternative hands-on training methods if cadavers are unavailable.
This year's procedure training includes: chest tube insertion, cricothyrotomies, ultrasound nerve blocks, trauma resuscitation, ventilator management, and impending deliveries. Lectures will be given by board-certified physicians in a multitude of specialties including, emergency medicine, pediatric emergency medicine, toxicology, orthopedics, neurology, OB/GYN, critical care medicine, trauma surgery, and dermatology.
Critical Care Ultrasound Course
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:- Train in the principles of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), including image acquisition, optimization, sonographic anatomy, and interpretation in critically ill patients.
- Assess cardiac function, volume status, and chamber size using focused cardiac ultrasound and its utility in clinical decision-making.
- Employ the Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (E-FAST) to rapidly identify intraperitoneal, pleural, and pericardial free fluid, pneumothorax, and hemothorax in emergency settings.
- Perform lower extremity compression ultrasound to detect deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and integrate findings into the management of critically ill patients at risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE).
Rural Emergency Medicine Course
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:- Demonstrate basic and difficult airway management.
- Demonstrate ability to manage medical and pediatric resuscitation.
- Analyze emergency medical scenarios expected in a rural environment.
- Discuss differences between adult and pediatric emergency medical presentations and treatment.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform lesser-used, but lifesaving, procedures that are sometimes needed in the emergency department.
In support of improving patient care, University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
