Community Engagement & Scholarship Core
The CES Core will also recruit and maintain a Community Advisory Board. This board will include community members, patients with chronic illness, community advocates and leaders who will advise on Center activities, and serve as advisors to members of CRISP engaged in research.
Goals:
- Collaborate as advisors in the conceptualization, design, conduct and analysis of CRISP research.
- Secure funding for and engage CRISP members in the conduct of research and dissemination of manuscripts on the impact of society on all persons to prevent and self-manage chronic conditions.
- With Research & Scholarship Core obtain funding, engage members and recruit speakers for future courses for health professionals, community members, and students on community involved and engaged research.
CRISP SYMPOSIUM 2025
On a beautiful Saturday in North Omaha, CRISP (Center for Chronic Illness Self-Management and Prevention) held its first community symposium, titled “Connections: Strategies for Bringing Community and Science Together,” at The Venue at Highlander, 2120 N St. The symposium, which took place on Saturday, May 17th, featured keynote speaker, Victor Sutton, PhD, chief of community health and health services at Mississippi State Department of Health and principal investigator at the Jackson Heart Study Community Engagement Center, who presented, “The Art of Science of Community Engagement.”
Additional speakers included Juan Santamaria, MD, associate professor in the UNMC Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology, and Community/Patient Advocate Julia Weathers--Ms. Weathers shared her experience with cancer prevention & self-management.
