Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Essentials of Staphylococcal Genetics Workshop has been canceled.
The Essentials of Staphylococcal Genetics workshop presents participants with an advanced understanding of the molecular and genetic techniques commonly used in the field to manipulate the staphylococcal genome in order to develop research strategies to counteract this pathogen's ability to overcome the host immune system and cause disease. The Center for Staphylococcal Research at the University of Nebraska Medical Center created the Nebraska Transposon Mutant Library (NTML) to enhance the genetic analysis of this bacterium. This course will provide participants with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills in the use of staphylococcal genetics to optimize the utility of this genetic resource. The workshop will highlight presentations by principal investigators whose careers reflect various aspects of staphylococcal biology, including virulence factor production, regulatory mechanisms, metabolism, biofilm development, and host/pathogen interactions.
