Physical Contributions

The McGoogan Health Sciences Library actively preserves the history of the health sciences in Nebraska and documents accomplishments of UNMC students, faculty, and staff. As we grow the historical collections, we look forward to including the eclectic and diverse stories of Nebraska within the Wigton Heritage Center exhibits.

Material and media of all kinds may be submitted for consideration, including but not limited to:

  • Paper or digital archives and images
  • Historical artifacts, instruments, textiles and furniture
  • Rare books, books authored by UNMC-connected persons and books pertaining to the history of the health sciences in Nebraska
  • Audio materials, including interviews and oral histories

Prior to donation, a collections committee evaluates all items. The committee considers whether to accept donations based on provenance, research value, exhibition opportunity, and storage space required.

The Special Collections and Archives are used in various ways by the UNMC community. While we cannot guarantee that donated items will be displayed in the Wigton Heritage Center, all items are cared for according to museum and archival preservation standards and can be used by researchers, students, tour groups, and institutional borrowers across the world.

If you have material or artifacts to offer for consideration or questions about the donation process, please contact Carrie Meyer, Head of Special Collections and Archives, carrie.meyer@unmc.edu, 402-836-9538 or fill out our form.
