Community Scientists Program
Community Scientists are trained individuals who partner with research faculty and staff, serving as a bridge between community members and researchers.
Community Scientists at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center support two main areas of cancer research:
Clinical Trials Community Scientists focus on clinical research. They provide feedback on clinical trial study design, participant recruitment strategies, and study materials to help ensure trials are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of the population we serve. Many Clinical Trials Community Scientists are cancer survivors who have participated in clinical trials, bringing valuable firsthand patient perspectives to clinical research.
Research Community Scientists focus on the broader spectrum of cancer research, including basic, translational, prevention and cancer control and survivorship research. They help ensure that research studies address community needs and priorities and that findings can be effectively translated into practice, programs and policy.
