Fort Omaha Native American Powwow

The Fort Omaha Intertribal Powwow celebrates Native American cultures through traditional dance, music, regalia, oral history, artistry, and foods of tribes across Nebraska and the surrounding region, including the Omaha, Ponca, Santee Sioux, and Winnebago. The Fort Omaha Campus carries deep ties to Native American history: it is where Ponca Chief Standing Bear and his people were detained ahead of the landmark 1879 civil rights case that first recognized Native Americans’ right to habeas corpus. Today the campus offers an ideal setting for this outdoor gathering, uniting people of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and ages. The event is family-friendly, free, and open to the public.

Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center staff will be on site to share cancer education and screening resources and to connect with the Native community.
