Nebraska Obesity Project: Findings and Opportunities for Action

Drs. Jackson and Verhoeven of the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) will present findings (Virtual meeting) from the Nebraska Obesity Project, a statewide initiative designed to better understand obesity-related challenges and opportunities across Nebraska. In partnership with community leaders, healthcare organizations, public health professionals, and local stakeholders, the project sought to identify community-informed strategies to address obesity and reduce cancer risk. 

Attendees will learn about key opportunities and barriers identified through listening sessions conducted in Lincoln, Grand Island, North Platte, Chadron, Ainsworth, Wayne, and Columbus, as well as state-level obesity data and trends. The presentation will highlight community priorities, available resources, and opportunities to strengthen connections across sectors and regions. Findings will help inform future multi-sector interventions aimed at improving health outcomes and reducing obesity-related cancer risk throughout Nebraska.
