Meeting Overview
The Midwest Pediatric Cardiology Society (MWPCS) Annual Meeting brings together leading experts in the field to explore innovative strategies and share insights that will enhance the quality of care provided to young patients with cardiovascular needs.
This year’s theme, "Expanding the Scope of Pediatric Cardiology," aims to underscore the importance of contemporary, multidisciplinary approaches in managing pediatric patients with heart conditions.
Meeting Schedule and Highlights
Thursday, Sept. 18 – The Farnam & Holland Performing Arts Center
The meeting will begin at 11:00 a.m. with registration and lunch at The Farnam. Exhibits will be located at the Holland Performing Arts Center, where attendees are encouraged to explore them before programming begins.
At 12:00 p.m., welcome remarks and the main educational programming will begin at the Holland, featuring presentations on:
- Cardiac Rehabilitation and Advances in Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing
- Lipid Disorders and Pharmacologic Management
- Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Practice
- Emerging Trends in Cardiac Genetics
Educational sessions will conclude at 5:00 p.m., followed by a poster presentation session.
Thursday Dinner Reception and Guest Speaker – The Farnam, Autograph Collection
At 6:30 p.m., join us for a dinner reception featuring Taylor Yaw, DVM, DACZM, DABVP, as guest speaker. Although this event is not CME accredited, it will include a special presentation offering a unique perspective drawn from Dr. Yaw’s work in zoological medicine.
Dr. Yaw serves as Vice President of Science and Director of Animal Health at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium, where he leads the veterinary team and oversees medical care for more than 39,000 animals.
Registrants may bring up to two adult guests (ages 18 and older) to this event. Available as an add-on during meeting registration.
Friday, Sept. 19 – Holland Performing Arts Center
The day begins at 7:00 a.m. with breakfast and exhibits. An exclusive breakfast for fellows, residents, and students will also take place at this time (registration required).
Educational programming will begin at 8:00 a.m. with welcome remarks, followed by oral abstract presentations throughout the day.
Friday Dinner – Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium
In the evening, attendees and their adult guests are invited to a very special event at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium–widely regarded as the best in the United States. Experience the zoo after hours with local food trucks, refreshments, and exclusive behind-the-scenes insights from Dr. Taylor Yaw on the zoo's cutting-edge approach to animal care and conservation.
Registrants may bring up to two adult guests (ages 18 and older).

This event is intended for medical professionals and their adult guests only—children are not permitted.
You do not need a zoo pass to attend this Friday dinner. Available as an add-on during meeting registration.
Important Information
- Name badges are required for access to sessions, meals, and special events. Please wear your badge at all times.
- Adult guests are required to wear name badges when attending the Thursday evening dinner reception and the Friday evening zoo experience.
- Discounted Zoo Passes (valid for one year) are available for purchase during online registration. These passes are for separate, personal visits to the zoo at a time of your choosing. Passes will be available for pick-up at the meeting registration desk.

At the conclusion of this activity, the participants should be better able to:
- Summarize recent advances in cardiac rehabilitation and cardiopulmonary exercise testing, focusing on their impact on pediatric patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate interdisciplinary strategies for applying cardiac rehabilitation in pediatric patients.
- Integrate recent developments in cardiac rehabilitation into multidisciplinary care plans to improve functional outcomes and quality of life for pediatric patients with heart conditions.
- Analyze current screening guidelines and pharmacologic management strategies for lipid disorders in children.
- Identify effective methods for assessing and treating lipid abnormalities to reduce cardiovascular risk factors in the pediatric population.
- Describe recent innovations in cardiac genetics relevant to pediatric cardiology.
- Identify emerging trends in the clinical application of cardiac genetics in pediatric cardiology.
- Incorporate cutting-edge technologies into routine pediatric cardiology care to support personalized treatment and improve diagnostic accuracy.
- Outline how technological advancements, including artificial intelligence, can streamline diagnostic processes and improve pediatric patient care.
In support of improving patient care, University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

A block of rooms has been reserved at The Farnam, Autograph Collection at the group rate of $229 per night (plus applicable taxes). Reservations can be made online (Group Code: MPCMPCB).
To receive the group rate, reservations must be made by Aug. 25, 2025. After this date, reservations will be accepted on a space and rate availability basis.

Cancel/Refund Policy
If you need to cancel your registration, please email registrationCCE@unmc.edu no later than Sept. 11, 2025. There is a $25 processing fee for cancellations made by Sept. 11. Cancellations made after this date and registrants who fail to attend are responsible for the full registration fee.
