10th Annual NPQIC Fall Summit

A Decade of Dedication—Advancing Excellence in Perinatal Care
Friday, Sept. 12
7:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
UNO Scott Conference Center
6450 Pine Street, Omaha, NE 68106
The Nebraska Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative (NPQIC) provides evidence-based resources and expertise to providers and nurses caring for mothers and newborns.
The 2025 Summit, marking NPQIC's tenth anniversary, will address critical maternal and infant health issues including obstetric hemorrhage, amniotic fluid embolism, birth trauma, perinatal mental health, substance use disorders, and syphilis.
Sessions will equip providers to manage potentially life-threatening conditions, while also addressing the psychological impact of birth complications on clinical teams, patients, and their support networks.
Attendees will gain an understanding of the importance of patient and community engagement, as well as strategies to identify patients with valuable lived experiences.
Lastly, the Summit will provide ample opportunities for both informal and facilitated networking and exchange of knowledge among perinatal health care professionals from across the state.
At the conclusion of this activity, the participants should be better able to:
- Discuss strategies for implementing interdisciplinary approaches to improve maternal and infant health outcomes at the population level through statewide collaboration and quality improvement efforts.
- Describe trauma-informed care practices that support recovery and resilience in patients, families, and health care teams following complex perinatal events.
- Identify high-risk perinatal conditions including obstetric hemorrhage, amniotic fluid embolism, and perinatal mental health or substance use disorders using evidence-based, collaborative approaches.
- Integrate patient and community perspectives into perinatal care and systems improvement initiatives to reduce disparities and enhance population health outcomes across Nebraska.
This accredited continuing education activity is designed for physicians, advanced practice providers, and nurses.
In support of improving patient care, University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

In partnership with the Sterle Family, NPQIC is hosting a screening of "24 Days Without You". Follow Annie and Tony Sterle's journey through an amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) during the birth of their first child, set against the backdrop of the early COVID-19 lockdown. Narrated by Annie, the film beautifully weaves the perspectives of a patient, partner, family, and health care team. The film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Annie alongside her OB/GYN physician, Dr. Elfstrand, and local experts in perinatal trauma and mental health.
