Jeffrey Payne, DDS, MDentSc, holds the F. Gene and Rosemary Dixon Endowed Chair in Dentistry and is a professor in the Department of Surgical Specialties in the UNMC College of Dentistry. As a clinician scientist, he works in the college’s Cruzan Center for Dental Research and Bioregulation Group. His research focuses on the associations between periodontitis and systemic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. He is actively engaged in clinical and translational research activities and has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health, Veterans Affairs, the Rheumatology Research Foundation and industry.
Dr. Payne has extensive experience conducting multicenter research studies, including clinical trials. He has served on multiple NIH study sections as well as study sections for private foundations.
Dr. Payne is actively engaged in training dental students, dental hygiene students and periodontology residents, and mentoring them in their research.
