Tammie J. Vargo, DHA, MEd, BS, RDH, is the chair for the Department of Dental Hygiene for the UNMC College of Dentistry. With advanced degrees in Health Administration, Adult Education, Gerontology and dental hygiene licensure, Dr. Vargo brings a strong foundation in clinical care and teaching, combined with academic leadership experience, including previous roles at the University of Oklahoma, where she was responsible for the administration, curriculum and accreditation of a multi-site distance education dental hygiene program. Her work and research focus emphasize interprofessional education and collaborative practice—building resilient partnerships and driving transformational change across healthcare to improve access to care, safety, quality and outcomes.

Dr. Vargo's academic and professional background includes earning various awards and demonstrating a commitment to learner-centered success, person-centered clinical excellence and innovation in dental hygiene education. Leading the program with an emphasis on critical thinking abilities, evidence-based care, innovative hands-on clinical training and active community engagement is her focus. She is committed to preparing students to become skilled, compassionate, and collaborative healthcare professionals ready to meet the diverse needs of patients and society.
