Laboratory Signs

To assist emergency response teams, each laboratory room or space at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine must display a sign identifying what chemicals and other potentially hazardous materials are present.

We provide these signs based on worksheets and inventories submitted by each lab. To request a lab sign, complete the appropriate worksheet, plus a chemical inventory:

When completing the laboratory sign worksheet, the primary and secondary contacts listed should be knowledgeable about the contents of the laboratory room/space. Emergency response personnel may ask that we contact individuals listed on lab signs for more specific information during emergencies.

One worksheet and inventory will need to be completed for each laboratory room or space. In cases where a single room or space is shared by multiple research teams, each researcher may submit a lab sign worksheet and chemical inventory. We will combine them to create a single sign that reflects all of the hazards.

Once the worksheet is completed it should be emailed to EHS. You also may send the worksheet and inventory via campus mail to EHS, zip 5480.
