Hip Protectors

Hip protectors are hard (plastic) or soft (foam) pads worn over the hip, usually fitted in pockets of specially-designed underwear. They are intended to redirect or attenuate force at the hip in the event of a sideways fall.

Hip Protector Tools

Hip Protector Implementation Toolkit: A toolkit created by the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 8 can guide health care professionals in the implementation of hip protectors in their facility. While the intended audience is health care professionals in a nursing home setting, individuals who work in hospitals may also find the information useful for patients at high risk for hip fracture.
