UNL and UNMC Receive Joint Accreditation Approval
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the University of Nebraska Medical Center have received formal approval from the U.S. Department of Education and the Higher Learning Commission for joint accreditation. This milestone reflects the long-standing partnership between the two campuses and allows for combined reporting of enrollment, degrees, and research activity, strengthening national visibility and impact. Planning is now underway to further align efforts, with a site visit from the Higher Learning Commission scheduled for October 2026.
H. Dele Davies, MD, Appointed Ninth Chancellor of UNMC
On June 18, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents unanimously approved the appointment of H. Dele Davies, MD, as the ninth chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, effective July 1. Dr. Davies has served as UNMC’s interim chancellor since July 2024 and brings more than a decade of leadership at the institution. He joined UNMC in 2012 as vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean of graduate studies, was named senior vice chancellor in 2017, and later stepped into the interim chancellor role. An internationally recognized expert in pediatric infectious diseases, Dr. Davies is also a respected leader in advancing community health.
UNMC Alumni Association Integrates with NU Foundation
Effective July 1, the UNMC Alumni Association will integrate with the University of Nebraska Foundation, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves as the philanthropic partner for the University of Nebraska and Nebraska Medicine. For nearly two decades, the two organizations have worked in close partnership while operating separately. This integration brings alumni engagement and philanthropic efforts into closer alignment, strengthening connections between alumni and the university they support.
UNMC, UNK Celebrate Opening of Rural Health Education Complex
UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Kearney recently celebrated the opening of the Douglas A. Kristensen Rural Health Education Complex in Kearney, now the largest rural healthcare teaching facility in the country. The $115 million investment expands academic programs and reinforces a shared commitment to growing Nebraska’s healthcare workforce.
A Day of Giving, a Future in Full Bloom
The fourth annual UNMC & Nebraska Medicine Giving Day, For the Greater Good, took place April 22–23, 2026, and the response from our alumni community was nothing short of inspiring. In just one day, donors gave $343,335 through 2,045 generous gifts, planting meaningful seeds of support for scholarships, research, community programs, and student organizations across our campuses.
