Admission Timetable for the Genetic Counseling Program

Application Open: October 31, 2023
Application Close: January 8, 2024
Virtual Interviews: Late January/ Early February (1st round) & March 2024 (2nd round)

September
Match registration opens. Our program participates in the Genetic Counseling Admission Match through the National Match Service (NMS). The NMS applicant registration opens in September. List of participating Programs is available. All applicants taking part in the current admissions cycle must first register for the Match with NMS before applying to any genetic counseling graduate program. To register, go to the NMS website.

October
Application opens. Online application for admission opens. See How to Apply for application instructions.

December
Match registration deadline. All genetic counseling applicants must register for the National Match Service (NMS) by this date. To register, go to the NMS website.

January
Final application deadline. Application and supporting materials MUST be submitted to CAHP Enrollment Management & Student Affairs through the UNMC online application by this date. The supporting materials include the official transcripts and the evaluations/letters of reference.

February and March
Interview notifications. Applicants will be contacted by CAHP Enrollment Management & Student Affairs if they have been selected for an interview. Notifications will come via the email address provided in the prospective student’s application.

Interview sessions. The interviews will be virtual this cycle, and the interview process will consist of two rounds as a way to initially meet more applicants. For the first round in early February, selected applicants will complete virtual, asynchronous interviews using the Kira Talent platform (What to Expect). The program will review these responses and invite a smaller group for a virtual “live” interview (2nd round). These interviews will be scheduled on three consecutive Mondays in March.

Late March
Match rank opens. The National Match Service (NMS) opens for applicants and programs to enter rankings.

Mid-April
Match rank deadline. Applicants and programs must submit their Rank Order Lists by this date through the National Match Service.

Late April
Match Day. The results of the NMS Match are released to applicants and programs. CAHP will send an electronic letter of confirmation to the matched applicants within 10 working days to the email address provided by the applicant. Matched applicants must respond to the electronic letter within 17 working days after Match Day.

July
Entering students must have completed all required coursework. If more time is needed, permission must be received from CAHP Enrollment Management & Student Affairs.

August
University, College, and Program Orientation events held the week before classes.
Classes begin.
