Research and Clinical Trials
The Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) is committed to bridging the gap and expanding access to clinical trials for patients in Nebraska.
Clinical trials explore new ways to prevent, detect, and treat disease. They are more than research; they offer a pathway to hope and are becoming the standard of care. Through clinical trials, patients can access advanced treatments, improve outcomes, and help shape the future of cancer care for all.
Although clinical trials are important, many people in communities do not participate in or have access to them. Some are unaware of trials, while others face barriers such as a lack of trust, cost, or transportation. As a result, too many patients miss the chance to receive new and promising treatments.
Community members play an important role in supporting clinical trials and research. Their voices, experiences, and perspectives help make research more meaningful and effective.
If you are interested in getting involved, the Clinical Trial Community Scientist program offers a meaningful way to participate. Cancer patients, cancer survivors, caregivers, and community organization representatives can contribute their insights to help shape and support ongoing cancer research.
Together with communities and researchers, the COE Office:
- Raise awareness about clinical trials and help people understand what they are and how they may benefit patients.
- Build trust by partnering with community leaders, organizations, and patient advocates.
- Support in facilitating access to trials by connecting individuals with cancer clinical trials that may be right for them.
- Support researchers with resources to design and conduct clinical trial studies that are relevant to the needs of the people we serve.
