Application Dates

Application open: Continuous

Application Due/Program Start:

  • July 1 – Fall Semester (August)
  • Sep. 1 – Spring Semester (January)

The College of Nursing requires 17 prerequisite courses. Students complete these courses at an accredited institution prior to beginning their nursing coursework. College of Nursing policy requires that designated prerequisite courses be completed within 7 years of program start. This requirement does not apply to Rn-to-BSN applicants who have been actively working in a nursing program during the year prior to starting the program.

It is recommended that students complete a minimum of 12 prerequisite courses prior to applying to the college. All 17 courses must be complete prior to starting the program.

Additional requirements:

  • Prerequisite coursework must be completed at a “C” or above.
  • Minimum prerequisite GPA of a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Document provisional RN licensure or current RN licensure allowing practice in the state where clinicals will be conducted.

The College of Nursing partners with NursingCAS. Please review the Applicant Help Center: NursingCAS Applicant Help Center.

The cost of the NursingCAS application is $60.

All application fees payable online by credit/debit card.

When you create your NursingCAS account, you will list an e-mail address. Be sure to manage your email account so that you receive emails from both NursingCAS and from UNMC. Check your e-mail frequently during the application period as that will be the primary form of communication from the college.

You do not need to provide ACT or SAT scores or your high school transcript.

Please review our policies regarding English as a second language and provide English proficiency scores if needed for undergraduate admissions.

You will enter all of your college coursework in the Transcript Entry portion of your application. Gather your transcripts prior to entering your college coursework so your entry and transcripts match. Follow the NursingCAS instructions on how to enter your test credits.

Submit all official transcripts from each school you attended to NursingCAS directly. Follow the instructions under the Colleges Attended tab and use the NursingCAS transcript guide for more information.

Applicants are required to submit a response to the following questions:

  • What motivates you to become a BSN prepared nurse?
  • What is your vision of your nursing career?
  • What mark will you leave in healthcare?

Two professional references also are required. You will need your references' email addresses as NursingCAS sends them a link to complete their recommendation. Examples of professional references include faculty, advisors, and supervisors. Family and friends are not considered professional references.

Applicants who are offered and accept admission to a UNMC College of Nursing program are admitted pending final submission of items that will be requested. Such items will include:

  • proof of current health immunizations as outlined by UNMC Student Health
  • a criminal history and abuse/neglect background check
  • a copy of a current BLS certification
  • completion of UNMC required compliance trainings
  • proof of a current unencumbered RN license (RN to BSN)

The offer of admission will be withdrawn for students who do not comply with all enrollment criteria by the required deadline.
