New Investigators
Are you a brand new investigator? Or an experienced investigator using the UNMC IRB for the first time? Then allow us to provide some guidance!
Many new investigators often wonder where to even start. The first question to answer is whether an IRB application is required for the project. IRB review is only necessary if your project is deemed human subject research.
How can you tell if your project is considered human subject research? There are a few tools to assist you:
- Here is a review guide of what is human subject research versus what is not: Am I Doing Human Subject Research?
- Read through HRPP Policy 1.8, Investigational Activities Requiring IRB Review and Approval
- Access our determination tool. Instructions on how to access the survey can be found here: Does My Project Require IRB Review?
- Still have questions? Contact our office by emailing irbora@unmc.edu or calling 402-559-6463.
Find the Investigator Toolkit in our guidebook here. The toolkit is a collection of helpful resources, including a comprehensive IRB Research Application Guide. Our IRB application guide is a great place to start!
