Training Partnerships

A key aspect of BHECN's work is developing progressive and effective ways to provide quality training and education for the behavioral health workforce. Partnering with health care organizations around the state provides students and trainees with training opportunities in urban underserved and rural communities.

These partnerships aim to help bolster the behavioral health workforce in these rural and underserved communities while also connecting students and trainees with career opportunities in these parts of the state.

BHECN training partnership sites include:

  • CHI Health Lasting Hope Recovery Center (Omaha): BHECN supports the education of psychiatric resident physicians, social work and clinical counseling students at the Lasting Hope Recovery Center, where they are able to work with patients who have been hospitalized due to their behavioral health conditions. Patients often experience severe mental illness that impacts their ability to work and thrive in their communities.
  • Community Alliance (Omaha): BHECN supports the education of psychiatric resident physicians, social work and clinical counseling students at Community Alliance where they are able to work with patients from the Omaha area who require significant support to manage their behavioral health conditions in the community. Students and trainees can learn about intensive models of care such as Assertive Collaborative Treatment, which is only available at Community Alliance in the Omaha Area.
  • Great Plains Behavioral Health Center (North Platte): BHECN supports the education and training of psychiatric resident physicians at Great Plains Behavioral Health in North Platte, where the residents are able to learn to care for rural Nebraskans. On this rural rotation, residents live in North Platte and support the work of a local psychiatrist in inpatient, outpatient and emergency department settings.
