EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this enduring material, the participants should be better able to:

Define motivational interviewing and explain its core elements.
Identify motivational interviewing techniques, such as open-ended questions, affirmations, and reflective listening to patient encounters.
Demonstrate motivational interviewing techniques for treatment of substance use, chronic disease management, medication adherence, mental health issues, and beyond.
Discuss the potential challenges and barriers to using motivational interviewing, and how to overcome them.
