Pathology Shared Resource
As a shared research resource supported by the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center (FPBCC) the Pathology Tissue Science Facility (TSF) and the Institutional Biospecimen Bank supports the research community at the UNMC for studies on animal and human tissues.
Pathology Shared Resource Specific Aims:
- Provide comprehensive tissue resources, histology, immunohistochemistry and digital pathology services.
- Maximize the effectiveness of our resources by training and mentoring users.
- Support long-term sustainability of core services through modernization and innovation.
- Provide tissue samples from paraffin, frozen, and autopsy sources.

Impact
The Pathology Shared Resource is located in Durham Research Center I and at the cancer center, where 80% of FPBCC members are based, providing them with easy access.
The collaboration between the Tissue Science Facility (TSF) and the Institutional Biospecimen Bank supports basic, clinical, and translational research through easy access to tissue samples. The Institutional Biospecimen Bank consists of FFPE, flash-frozen, live frozen, and cancer cells lines generated from various neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases. Additionally, blood, serum and plasma samples are available. These tissues are obtained from patients who have consented scientists to use their material for research purposes.
The Tissue Science Facility (TSF) provides comprehensive research histology lab services for processing human and mouse tissue, paraffin-embedding, and sectioning. The TSF provides digital slide scanning and automated immunohistochemistry.
