Mentorship Program

Our mentoring program will provide guidance and support to undergraduate and graduate level students seeking licensed behavioral health careers in Nebraska. Students will be paired with mentors who are currently licensed and practicing mental health professionals in their fields. Monthly activities and mentoring opportunities will occur between mentors and mentees for the timespan of one academic year.
Pilot Program Mentors
Mentors for the pilot program year will be sought within the pool of licensed and practicing behavioral health professionals in Nebraska. This will span across Nebraska cities, towns, private and public entities, and varied behavioral health professions at the licensure level (e.g. LHMP, LIMHP, psychiatrist, counselors). A minimum of 15 mentors were sought for the initial pilot program launch for a commitment of one academic year (August 2023 – May 2024).Target Student Demographic
Mentees will be undergraduate and graduate level students pursuing behavioral health degrees with the goal of licensure in Nebraska. Student applicants will come from educational institutions across Nebraska. A minimum of 15 mentees were sought for the initial pilot program launch for a commitment of one academic year (August 2023 – May 2024).
Applications
Mentors and mentees must apply to join the BHECN Mentoring Program. Applications will open in May 2024.
Match/Mentoring Activities
Mentors and mentees are expected to meet or interact once a month between September to May. This could be through Zoom, phone, or in-person. Activities could include meeting for coffee, lunch, or a mentoring phone call or Zoom. Activities should remain professional with a continued focus on the mentor and mentee dynamic. Opportunities for job and work shadowing may also be arranged when appropriate and possible. Once a semester, BHECN will coordinate and sponsor a recreational or social activity that all mentors and mentees can attend. BHECN will also provide nominal stipends to all mentors to support their monthly gatherings with their mentee and the occasional associated costs (e.g. lunch, coffee, mileage).
Important Dates
Applications for mentors and mentees closed July 31, 2023, with matches finalized by Sept. 30, 2023.
