Jesse Hirner, MD, MS, FAAD, joins UNMC Dermatology as the department’s Director of Supportive Oncodermatology and Director of Pigmented Lesions Clinic. Dr. Hirner attended the University of Missouri in Columbia where he earned his Bachelor of Science in biochemistry being elected summa cum laude and a Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society member.
Dr. Hirner attended the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia where he became a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his transitional internship at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis and dermatology residency at the University of Missouri in Columbia. In his final year he served as chief resident and was awarded Resident of the Year at the MedZou Free Health Clinic. Dr. Hirner pursued additional training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, completing his fellowship in complex medical dermatology under the direction of Drs. Nicole LeBoeuf and Arash Mostaghimi. He completed a Master of Science degree in epidemiology at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.
After fellowship, Dr. Hirner did supportive oncodermatology clinics at the Dana-Farber Cancer Insititute and practiced general and complex medical dermatology at the Brigham and Women's Hospital while serving as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. He was then recruited to direct the cutaneous oncology program at the University of Missouri. There his practice focused on high-risk and complex skin cancers and supportive oncodermatology. He also chaired the multidisciplinary melanoma and cutaneous oncology tumor board. Dr. Hirner has been invited to speak at international conferences and published numerous peer-reviewed articles focused on managing skin side effects of cancer treatment and early detection and care for melanoma.
