Graduate Medical Education Programs
With a goal to educate physicians in a high quality environment, we offer nearly 70 residency and fellowship programs and train more than 600 house officers. Our outstanding faculty train residents in a variety of clinical settings including metropolitan, rural and regional centers.
Our dozens of programs -- including nearly 20 in internal medicine -- allow residents and fellows a variety of specialties. Each program is designed to provide clinical experience, research and in-depth training.

Applications for most UNMC programs will be submitted online through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) – see a full list of participating specialties. UNMC programs that do not accept applications through ERAS will specify application protocols on their program webpage.

Omaha Track
Family medicine faculty serve as attending physicians for our own hospital and obstetric services. At the same time, residents enjoy the benefits of being taught by expert teaching faculty across multiple medical disciplines.
Rural Track
Family Medicine residents in the rural training track program spend their first year of training in the Department of Family Medicine at UNMC in Omaha and the remaining two years at one of four rural Nebraska training sites.
Addiction Medicine Fellowship
Addiction Medicine is a specialty that involves treating patients across all age ranges, from childhood through care of geriatric patients. Physicians in this specialty work with all spectrums of substance use, from prevention to treatment and recovery.
