The Department of Emergency Medicine here at UNMC offers a one-year, ACGME-accredited Emergency MEdical Services (EMS) Fellowship designed to prepare physicians for leadership in prehospital care and EMS systems. The program emphasizes:
- Comprehensive Triaging: Fellows gain hands-on experience in medical oversight, quality improvement, and EMS system administration through immersive education and real-world practice.
- Diverse Clinical Exposure: Opportunities include ride-alongs with urban and rural EMS agencies, tactical response teams, pediatric critical care transport, and air medical services.
- Academic and Administrative Development: Fellows participate in state EMS board meetings, protocol committees, and quality assurance reviews, while contributing to education and research initiatives.
- Expert Faculty Leadership: Directed by Dr. Shaila Coffey, EMS Fellowship Program Director, and supported by board-certified EMS physicians with extensive experience in emergency medicine and prehospital care.
- Integrated Resources: Training occurs within Nebraska Medicine’s Level I Trauma Center and affiliated facilities, complemented by simulation-based learning and collaborative outreach.
