Initial Evaluation

Some children require only an evaluation and written recommendations, whereas others require outpatient therapy or day treatment.

Families complete a screening form to determine eligibility for an evaluation. If eligible, the caregivers and child will be seen by a team of specialists with training and expertise in the assessment of severe behavior problems. The team will conduct an initial evaluation to determine the severity of the behavior and to match children with the most appropriate program.

During an evaluation, we will review the form that you filled out prior to the appointment along with any other medical records that might help us understand more about your child. We also will ask you follow-up questions and watch you interact with your child.

Evaluations typically take 45-90 minutes, and the appointments start very close to their scheduled start time.

The whole team will meet with you at the same time, so there is typically no waiting for the next interdisciplinary provider to arrive.

Evaluations typically involve a psychologist and/or behavior analyst.

If you live in Nebraska, we are often able to complete the evaluation through telehealth, but insurance coverage for telehealth varies. If you are interested in a telehealth evaluation, please let our clinic coordinator know.

If you live in a state other than Nebraska, we may still be able to do the evaluation by telehealth. Whether this is possible depends on which state you are in during the appointment. Many states now allow psychologists to practice telehealth without having a license in that state.
