Intensive Outpatient Services

Intensive Outpatient services bridge the gap between traditional outpatient care and Day Treatment services by offering a higher frequency of support while maintaining flexibility for families.

Children attend the clinic for three hours per day (typically from 9:00am – 12:00pm or 1:00pm – 4:00 pm), five days per week, allowing for more rapid assessment, treatment adjustment and skill acquisition than standard outpatient services.

Care begins with a focused, function-based assessment, followed by the development and implementation of an individualized treatment plan. Sessions provide repeated opportunities for direct intervention, data-based decision making and refinement of procedures in a structured clinical setting.

Caregivers are closely involved throughout. They participate in sessions, receive hands-on coaching and practice strategies with support from our team to promote confidence and consistency across settings. As progress is made, treatment is increasingly transferred to caregivers, with an emphasis on generalization to the home and community.

The goal of Intensive Outpatient services is to accelerate progress while building caregiver capacity, ensuring that gains are both meaningful and sustainable.

Each day includes structured assessment and treatment activities led by our clinical team. Your child will participate in individualized sessions focused on skill-building and reducing challenging behavior, while caregivers observe and take part in training at various points throughout the program.

Visits are three hours per day and occur five days per week. Typical appointments are scheduled from either 9:00am - 12:00pm or 1:00pm - 4:00pm.

Care is provided by a collaborative team, including a faculty case manager (LP or BCBA-D), a behavior analyst (BCBA), and multiple behavior technicians (RBTs), and occurs in consultation with other MMI specialists as needed.

The program is highly structured and individualized. It begins with assessment and transitions into intensive treatment, with ongoing caregiver involvement and a gradual shift toward caregiver-led implementation.
