Dr. Cates is a licensed clinical psychologist, Director of Behavioral Health at Nebraska Medicine and Vice Chair of Clinical Operations in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Cates also serves as the Behavioral Health Consultant to the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit and the National Quarantine Unit. His areas of professional interest include the psychological effects of medical isolation and quarantine, promoting resilience in healthcare workers, treatment of children and adolescents suffering from a variety of psychiatric disorders, and suicide prevention.
Dr. Cates is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Nebraska Psychological Association where he serves on the Ethics Committee. In addition to over 70 presentations for local, regional, national and international audiences, he has authored or co-authored 18 peer-reviewed journal articles or book chapters.
