Varun Sharma

Dr. Sharma (he/him/his) is an assistant professor in the University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Psychiatry. He works in the UNMC Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department. He sees patients in the Nebraska Medicine Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic. He completed his medical education in India in 2009. He came to the United States and did research at the Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He then completed a general psychiatry residency at the State University of New York (SUNY Downstate) in Brooklyn. He also did one-year fellowship in Psychoanalysis from Psychoanalytic Association of New York, NYU Department of Psychiatry, followed by a Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from University of Pennsylvania, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. After graduating in 2016, Dr. Sharma worked in an inpatient hospital and day treatment program for five years and also served as Associate Medical Director for that hospital. He joined UNMC as faculty in July 2021.

He is a fellow of American Psychiatric Association (FAPA). Dr. Sharma also has been honored with full membership in Sigma Xi, a scientific honor society and a Fellowship in the Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research (FAPCR). He is a member of American Academy of Child and Adolescent psychiatry (AACAP), American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). He has authored more than 15 publications, abstracts, and presentations.
