iLEAD Program
Step out of the shallows and into the deep.
In the past, leadership was often defined by control and consistency—keeping things on a steady course. The job of a leader is not so simple today! With more frequent world-reshaping disruptions, persistent financial uncertainty, and complex human socio-cultural challenges, today’s leaders must be uniquely equipped to master the flow of the waves.
What is iLEAD?
Faculty Development’s iLEAD (Interprofessional Leadership for Excellence and Academic Development) certificate program provides the tools to become an agile, creative, and confident leader. It will help clarify your view of the horizon and the direction of your sails. When bandwidth is limited and demands are high, iLEAD helps you operate in flow—sustained by purpose, anchored in skill, and invigorated by vast potential. You will grow far beyond the status quo as a capable, collaborative, and courageous leader, discovering new and exciting possibilities in healthcare.
iLEAD is a one-year, applied-learning experience designed for individuals who are committed to advancing their leadership skills and performance within and outside the organization. The program typically runs in alternating academic years.
How Does It Work?
Learning is reinforced by an interprofessional leadership community, which removes departmental silos to expand networks and gain insights from a broad cross-section of colleagues. One-on-one and small group peer coaching enrich the experience by offering diverse perspectives, a robust accountability system and an enduring support network.
Our iLEAD graduates become flexible, visionary and reflective leaders with the skills necessary to improve and sustain positive change in their career trajectory.

Congratulate the 2025-2026 iLEAD cohort!
The broad impact of their individual iLEAD projects can be found in the iLEAD graduation booklet.
Joining iLEAD
Participants in iLEAD are UNMC faculty who have a vested interest and desire to expand their leadership skills. This academy of scholars is open to faculty from all Colleges and Institutes across the organization.
To participate in the iLEAD program, you may be nominated by your supervisor or submit your application independently. Enrollment is limited to support a highly interactive program format. There is a financial cost to participate in iLEAD.
This is a one-year commitment. At the beginning of the program, you'll evaluate your personal skills, talents and behaviors. Then, building on this knowledge, you'll attend didactic sessions and practice in simulations and small group exercises. Finally, you'll apply your newly learned abilities in UNMC-focused projects.
Because of iLEAD's progressive design, you are required to attend all of the scheduled meetings (including the graduation event) without interruption by traditional work duties. Once the program has started, there are no refunds for participants.
The next cohort will run from July 2027-June 2028.
Applications will open in Fall 2026.
Typically, the application involves an online questionnaire and a letter of endorsement.
