Department of Neurosurgery Welcomes New Faculty Member
The UNMC Department of Neurosurgery is pleased to announce the appointment of Joshua Dian, MD, FRCSC, as a faculty neurosurgeon. Dr. Dian is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) in Neurosurgery. Dr. Dian brings specialized expertise in complex spine surgery. His clinical interests are complemented by a commitment to advancing neurosurgical education and contributing to ongoing research initiatives. Dr. Dian joins a growing team of neurosurgeons serving patients across Nebraska and the surrounding region. His appointment underscores UNMC’s continued investment in expanding clinical services, enhancing education, and advancing innovation in neurosurgery.

2025 Midwest Neurosurgical Society Meeting held in Omaha

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center was honored to host the 2025 Midwest Neurosurgical Society Annual Meeting in Omaha on August 15–16, 2025. The meeting was led by MNS President, Dr. Afshin Salehi, and opened with a welcome reception at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Jay Wellons of Vanderbilt University. The program featured a wide range of insightful presentations from students, residents, and faculty, fostering meaningful discussion and collaboration. Looking ahead, the 2026 MNS Annual Meeting will be held in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota.

Department of Neurosurgery Awarded North American Skull Base Society Multidisciplinary Team of Distinction
The UNMC Department of Neurosurgery was designated as a North American Skull Base Society Multidisciplinary Team of Distinction (MTD). This is an educational and institutional honor that is granted to those institutions that meet the MTD criteria.
