Phyllis Warkentin

Phyllis I. Warkentin, MD, is an associate professor in the UNMC Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology. She also serves as chief medical officer of the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy, through which she has been involved in the development of standards and of the inspection and accreditation of stem cell transplantation programs worldwide.

Education & Training

BA: Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois, 1970.

MD: University of Minnesota Medical School, Minneapolis,1974.

Pediatrics Residency: University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, 1974-77.

Fellowship: Pediatric hematology/oncology, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, 1978-79.

Fellowship: Blood banking and transfusion medicine, University of Minnesota, 1979-80.

Board Certification: Pediatrics, 1980; pediatric hematology/oncology, 1984; and blood banking, 1983.

Research Interests

Transfusion therapy, mainly in the management of ABO incompatibility in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, both the transfusion management and the manipulation of the incompatible graft prior to infusion.
