What do you value most in your pediatric cardiology training at UNMC/Children's Nebraska? I value the supportive environment our program fosters. I feel that our faculty truly value our education and professional interests.

Personal interests & hobbies: When I’m not spending time with my wife and dog (Azul), I’m watching college and professional football. I’m a die-hard Dallas Cowboys/Mavericks fan. I’m a big foodie and love trying out different foods.

Current research focus: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest

Professional interests: General Cardiology, undecided on other subspecialties

Tell us a little about yourself?

I’m originally from Dallas, TX and matched here for residency with my wife, who is now a psychiatrist at UNMC. I’m a die-hard Texas A&M (Gig’em Ags!) and Cowboys fan.

Why did you decide to pursue pediatric cardiology?

My educational background is in engineering, and I had the chance to work in a translational lab that dealt with ventricular assist devices. I also really enjoyed learning about biomechanics and tissue engineering. Those experiences, the innovation of the field, plus the physiology that goes along with congenital heart disease made pediatric cardiology the field I wanted to pursue. On top of all of this, we get the opportunity to help really sick kids get better.

Is there a specific area of cardiology that you are interested in?

I am staying fairly open to all fields, but I do enjoy both inpatient and outpatient general cardiology, heart failure, and exercise physiology.

Why did you choose to train at Children's Nebraska?

I went to Children’s Nebraska for residency and was able to interact the great faculty that we had here. The program has the fellows’ best interest at heart and has a track record of adapting to meet the fellows’ career goals.

What are your hobbies and what do you like to do in your spare time?

When I’m not spending time with my wife and dog (Azul), I’m watching college and professional football. I’m a big foodie and love trying out different foods and coffee shops.

What is your favorite part of living in Omaha?

Omaha is genuinely welcoming and because of its rapid growth, has just about everything.

What would you say to someone interested in pursuing training at Children's Nebraska?

If you’re looking for a program that genuinely has great people to work with and learn from, is incredibly flexible and adaptable, and is rapidly growing with the right amount of clinical volume and pathology, then Children’s Nebraska is the program for you.
