Maddy's Story

Maddy Madsen PharmD candidate, class of 2026

A little about me:

I'm from Bellevue, NE and attended UNL for 3 years. I played softball and volleyball in high school along with many other clubs. In undergrad, I lived with my sister and her best friends and they soon became mine along with my nephew puppies. I’ve been dating my boyfriend since junior year of high school and he will be starting medical school here at UNMC this fall. One of my best friends will be a P1 this fall and I’m so excited to see them on campus!

Why did you decide to pursue the College of Pharmacy’s PharmD program?

I knew I always wanted to be in the healthcare field and liked chemistry. After talking to my family and taking a few classes at UNL, I decided to join the pre-pharmacy track and almost immediately found a job as a technician. I learned so much about pharmacy and knew I made the right choice.

What activities/research are you involved in?

What has been your favorite experience while being a student here?

My favorite experience so far was celebrating one of my fellow classmates at her wedding in May! She was a gorgeous bride and I had a blast at her wedding in Okoboji!

What are your plans after graduation, and have they changed since you began the program?

I plan to either do a residency or work in community pharmacy. I haven’t made a final decision yet, but it’s what I have always planned on doing.

What advice would you give to a student considering attending the UNMC College of Pharmacy?

Tour the campus and imagine if you could see yourself studying in the commons or library. Think about what is most important to you in a school and see if UNMC aligns with them.
