Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity

Gamma Epsilon Chapter

Why join Kappa Psi?

BROTHERHOOD
As a member of Kappa Psi, you will join over 45,000 other members in the brotherhood of the oldest and largest national pharmaceutical fraternity. Kappa Psi has 54 graduate chapters and 73 collegiate chapters (including our own Gamma Epsilon). As a chapter, we represent the 2nd largest organization in the COP with 113 members in the 4 classes of students, as well as several faculty members. Gamma Epsilon is one of the top 10 chapters in the country.

LEADERSHIP and SCHOLARSHIP
Kappa Psi is a wonderful way to get involved on campus. We focus highly on developing leadership qualities. Many of our brothers are leaders in other organizations at the COP. Members can elect to lead of one of our 9 committees (philanthropy, smoking prevention, retreat, scholarship, fundraising, initiation, social, bylaws, and conclave) or may run for one of the 8 elected officer positions in the spring. There are also opportunities to serve the fraternity at a regional or national level. Besides being leaders in organizations, Kappa Psi members are leaders in the classroom as well. This year, over 80% of our members received honors certificate from the fraternity.

PHILANTHROPY and SMOKING CESSATION
Our main philanthropy is to support the Ronald McDonald House. Each class volunteers once a semester to cook dinner for those staying at the RMH. In the winter, we hold a hat/mitten/food drive for Omaha’s Open Door Mission. We also hold a 3-on-3 basketball tournament every spring called Hoops for Healing. The money we raise goes to Camp Floyd Rogers, a summer camp to teach children how to live with their diabetes. This year we raised over $2,200. Currently, Gamma Epsilon is developing a presentation to teach local middle school students the health dangers and consequences of smoking from a pharmacist’s perspective.

SOCIAL
Although Kappa Psi does focus on serving the community and fostering professional and leadership development, we are probably most known for having a great time with one another. Kappa Psi is a wonderful organization to get involved in if you want to make a difference in the lives of others, while making lasting memories along the way. Throughout the year, our chapter sponsors activities such as Back To School BBQ, Highlighter Party, nights at the Crescent Moon, socials with Creighton’s chapter, and an all UNMC Fiesta Before Finals.
