Pediatric Fellowship
With Mentorship by Pediatric Dermatologists
The University of Nebraska Medical Center offers a one-year, ACGME-accredited Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship Program. Based primarily at Children’s Nebraska, the fellowship provides comprehensive training in both outpatient and inpatient pediatric dermatology.
Fellows benefit from close mentorship by two full-time pediatric dermatologists, who are actively engaged in clinical care, education and academic initiatives within the UNMC Department of Dermatology.
Fellowship Goals
- Clinical Expertise: Develop expert-level skills in general pediatric dermatology and complex medical dermatologic conditions in children.
- Procedural Proficiency: Gain experience in outpatient procedures, excisions of benign and malignant lesions with reconstruction, and laser-based treatments using a variety of technologies tailored for pediatric patients.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Participate in coordinated care through multidisciplinary clinics, fostering collaboration across specialties for complex patient cases.
- Professional Communication: Strengthen communication skills with pediatric patients, families, clinic staff, and other medical specialties to ensure compassionate, clear, and coordinated care.
- Graduated Autonomy: Promote progressive independence in clinical decision-making, always supported by direct supervision, to ensure a safe and effective transition to unsupervised practice.

Locations
- Children's Nebraska Outpatient Clinic: Fellows will participate in outpatient, procedural (including lasers), and operating room encounters. A half day bi-weekly is reserved for research.
- Specialty Clinic: Fellows work extensively with overlapping specialty providers in the Neurofibromatosis clinic, including experts in pediatric allergy/immunology, pediatric plastic surgery and pediatric rheumatology. This opportunity allows fellows to become familiar with interprofessional multidisciplinary care and available resources based upon the optimal individual needs of the patient.
- Inpatient/Lasers: Fellows will participate in inpatient pediatric consults and an all-ages laser clinic paired with a few half days of pediatric dermatology clinic.
Also, fellows have the opportunity to dedicate one block to an elective, and the choice will determine location. Electives may include genetics, pediatric allergy/immunology, pediatrics, pediatric plastic surgery, plastic surgery and pediatric rheumatology.

The block schedule is divided into thirteen 4-week blocks:
