Brian T Shahan, MD, FAAFP, DFPHM

Dr. Shahan earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2009 and completed his Family Medicine residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2012. After his residency, he was stationed for four years in Alaska, providing full-scope primary care in remote and austere locations. In 2016 he returned to academic medicine to pursue specialty training in hospital medicine and completed the Hospital Medicine Fellowship at Fort Bragg, NC in 2018. Dr. Shahan subsequently took over as the program director for the Family Medicine Hospitalist Fellowship while working as a critical care hospitalist for both the US Army and the local county trauma center in Fayetteville, NC. He earned the Recognition of Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine (RFPHM) in 2019 through the collaboration of the American Board of Family Physicians and the American Board of Internal Medicine. In 2022, Dr. Shahan exited the Army after 13 years of Active-Duty service and returned to the University of Nebraska Medical Center to join the Hospital Medicine staff. Dr. Shahan has additional interests in critical care medicine and Point-of-Care Ultrasound.
