Trevor Van Schooneveld

Dr. Van Schooneveld has been part of the UNMC Division of Infectious Diseases for more than 15 years. His Internal Medicine training was at UNMC and his ID fellowship at Creighton University Medical Center. He holds numerous clinical and educational roles in the division and has been the Program Director for the Infectious Diseases Fellowship for more than 10 years. He loves working with trainees and observing their progress to independent ID practitioners. He is also involved in resident education as an Internal Medicine Core Faculty and medical student education as a frequent lecturer or small group facilitator.

Dr. Van Schooneveld is an Associate Medical Director for Infection Control and Epidemiology, but his primary administrative role is as the Medical Director for Nebraska Medicine’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Program. His research interests center around these roles including all things stewardship including diagnostic stewardship, C. difficile infection, and the use of biomarkers and microbiology diagnostic testing. Dr. Van Schooneveld’s inpatient work is primarily on the General ID service although he enjoys the other services he rounds on (SOT, Community ID, Telehealth). He believes supporting smaller hospitals in our state who don’t have access to ID resources is essential and has helped lead statewide and institutional outreach to these facilities. In the ambulatory setting, he cares for patients who have infections due to Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria. While he sometimes jokes it is the “anti-stewardship clinic,” the relationship he has been able to develop with patients during their long treatment courses has been a unique and rewarding experience.
