Lauren Loyd - Student Spotlight

Lauren Loyd is a 1st year MSN to PhD student.

Research/professional interests: I am interested in researching nursing ethics education, particularly as it relates to moral distress. I became interested in studying this topic further through work with nursing students in an ethics course that I teach.

Describe your nursing experience before starting the PhD program (if any). My clinical nursing experience is in telemetry and stepdown patient populations in acute care settings. My introduction to nursing education was through professional staff development in the acute care setting and I currently teach in an academic education setting.

What are your career goals? I would like to continue to work academically and teach nursing students following achievement of my doctoral degree.

Why I chose a PhD in nursing: I am interested in contributing to nursing science and advancing the nursing profession through conducting nursing research.

Why did you choose UNMC? I look forward to the opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration at an academic medical center to ultimately benefit the patients who we serve as nurses.
