Department of Pediatrics
The Department of Pediatrics is committed to improving the well-being of children through excellence and innovation in health care, scholarship, education, service and advocacy.
The department is made up of 23 divisions and more than 300 faculty and staff. We support learners in various stages of their education and training, including through our residency program and support of 12 fellowship programs, in efforts to cultivate the next generation of pediatricians and child health researchers.
The department partners with Children’s Nebraska in Omaha and Nebraska Medicine to provide exceptional patient care, immersive learning experiences for our students and exciting research opportunities for a healthier future for the children in our region and beyond.

Cindy Colpitts Receives Inaugural Nebraska Chapter AAP Lifetime Service to Pediatrics Award
The Nebraska Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics has chosen Cindy Colpitts, education administrator for the pediatric residency program and pediatric fellowship programs, to be the first recipient of the Lifetime Service to Pediatrics Award.
Jill Skrabel, PhD, RD, Receives APHL Award
Every year, the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) Newborn Screening Symposium hosts an awards ceremony to recognize individuals for their contributions to the newborn screening system. This year, Jill Skrabal, PhD, RD, assistant professor, Division of Inherited Metabolic Diseases, was nominated for, and received, the Everyday Life Saver Award.
Division of Cardiology Hosts Successful 2025 Midwest Pediatric Cardiology Society Annual Meeting
The Division of Cardiology proudly hosted the 2025 Midwest Pediatric Cardiology Society Annual Meeting on September 18 and 19. Held at the Holland Performing Arts Center, the event brought together 151 attendees from across the region. The event had not been held in Omaha since 2011.
