Breast Imaging Fellowship

An MIP MR image

The University of Nebraska Medical Center/Nebraska Medicine is an American College of Radiology (ACR) designated Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center. Our institution is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).

Our breast imaging fellowship includes dedicated training in digital mammography, tomosynthesis, breast and axillary ultrasound, breast MRI, and image-guided breast procedures. Our fellows will become proficient in performing image-guided percutaneous biopsies using mammogram, tomosynthesis, ultrasound and MRI, as well as image-guided percutaneous localizations. Fellows will participate in case presentation for Multidisciplinary Clinic (new breast cancer diagnosis) conference and Tumor Board (known breast cancers) conference, which will help teach an understanding of comprehensive breast cancer care. Fellows will also prepare two breast imaging lectures to present to the UNMC diagnostic radiology residents, and prepare two interesting case conferences for the breast imaging staff.

As funding for this position comes from the radiology department at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine, our fellow will be expected to act as a member of our staff 20% of the fellowship year (an average of two half days per week). This may include covering imaging modalities such as ultrasound, chest radiographs, and gastrointestinal imaging (including fluoroscopy procedures and radiographs). There will be additional internal moonlighting opportunities open to our fellow as well.

UNMC participates in the Breast Imaging Fellowship Match Program sponsored by the National Resident Matching Program. Interested candidates should use the universal application found on the Society of Breast Imaging website. Applicants for this position should be planning to, or have graduated from, an ACGME-accredited Diagnostic Radiology Program and should be board-eligible or already certified by the American Board of Radiology.
