Thomas Pugh, MD

Thomas J. Pugh, MD, is a professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Dr. Pugh joined UNMC in 2025 and provides patient care through UNMC's primary clinical partner, Nebraska Medicine, where he specializes in treating patients with cancers of the genitourinary tract and thorax. 

Dr. Pugh, who grew up in Omaha, went to college at the University of Kansas on a basketball scholarship. He attended medical school at the University of Colorado and completed an internship in Internal Medicine, followed by residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Colorado Hospital, where he also served as chief resident.

He joined the faculty at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he was responsible for developing advanced radiation technologies such as SBRT, proton beam therapy, intensity modulated proton therapy, and advanced imaging integration into radiation therapy.

He returned to the University of Colorado Hospital as a physician leader, where he served as vice chair for Clinical Affairs. Dr. Pugh has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters.
