Quick Checks for New Students

CAPS offers the Quick Check Program to all new students. The aim of this program is to provide increased support and reduce stigma around mental health services offered through CAPS.

CAPS hopes you will take advantage of this brief but meaningful opportunity to check in and take care of yourself.

What is a Quick Check?

Quick Checks are not therapeutic appointments. CAPS understands that UNMC programs are rigorous, and each student wants to reach their full academic potential. Mental wellness is an important component of reaching one’s goals. As such, each student is given a 15-minute quick check appointment with a CAPS therapist. This appointment allows you to discuss your self-care strategies and the ways in which CAPS can support you in meeting your personal and professional goals.

Appointment Details

You will receive an email during your first semester from our scheduling system notifying you of your scheduled 15-minute check-in. If you wish to change your appointment or cancel (opt-out), click the appropriate button in the email.

If you would prefer to meet on Zoom, cancel the original appointment using the button in the email. You will then receive a follow-up email with a link to reschedule, where you can select Zoom as your preferred location. If the available reschedule times are not convenient, call the CAPS office at 402-559-7276 to arrange a better time.

Quick Check Appointment Location

The appointment location will be listed in the email. It could be in person or on Zoom, depending on your campus. If you prefer Zoom regardless of your campus, you can make that change when you receive your appointment email.
