David B. Berkheim, MD

Dr. Berkheim is a thoracic surgeon who cares for a wide range of patients with both malignant and benign diseases of the chest. He is interested in minimally invasive chest surgery and with both robotic and VATS approaches the team is able to perform a wide range of thoracic operations including in part: lobectomies, segmentectomies, pneumonectomies, esophagectomies, thymectomies, resections of anterior mediastinal masses, biopsies, hiatal hernia repairs, and first rib resections. Surgeons at Nebraska Medicine perform robotic navigational bronchoscopies and endobronchial assessment of lymph nodes as well as many other bronchoscopic and endoscopic interventions such as laser therapy, dilations, cryotherapy, and stents. He is also interested in transplant and is part of the lung transplant surgical team at UNMC.

Dr. Berkheim received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He completed his general surgery residency from Christiana Care Health Systems, Newark, Delaware and his thoracic surgery residency from UNMC. He is board certified in general surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgery and the Nebraska Medical Association.
