The Golden Apple Award

Golden Apple

The Golden Apple is an award presented by the local American Medical Student Association chapter to faculty members who, in the students' opinion, have excelled in educational endeavors.  Awards are given annually to M1 and M2 faculty.  Graduating seniors present the Hirschmann Golden Apple Award to both a clinical and basic scientist during the Honors Convocation.  Each Hirschmann prize includes a significant monetary award.

This award is one of the highest teaching awards that a faculty member can receive. The plaque is proudly displayed in individual faculty member’s offices.

Recipients of the Golden Apple Award will:

  • Deliver content in an understandable and organized manner
  • Exhibit teaching as a professional priority
  • Demonstrate professionalism
  • Stimulate learning and inquiry in students
  • Recognize and accommodate students’ particular educational needs
Students are encouraged to nominate faculty for the award when doing the routine College of Medicine faculty evaluations. A checkbox has been provided at the bottom of the form.
